The Israeli Navy Participates in Exercise “ARGONAUT 2023” in Cyprus
The “ARGONAUT 2023” annual international naval exercise, concluded today (Thursday). Forces from the navies of Cyprus, Greece, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and the United States participated in the exercise, which was led by the Cyprus Naval Command.
As part of the exercise, which took place in the Mediterranean Sea, Israeli Navy fleets sailed to Cyprus.
The joint exercise included firing at aerial targets, a simulation of a mass casualty incident, scans for search and location purposes and a rescue effort in cooperation with aerial forces. Moreover, the participants trained in seamanship, towing and joint maneuvering in the region.
Among the Israeli forces that participated in the exercise were the soldiers of the 914th Northern Routine Security Fleet, the soldiers of the 916th Routine Security Fleet and the soldiers of the Sa’ar 4.5-Class Missile Ship belonging to the Missile Ship Flotilla, who demonstrated highly impressive capabilities.
The exercise is conducted annually and strengthens the connection and cooperation between the navies in the region. It enables knowledge sharing in order to enhance the capabilities and professional expertise of the navies with the purpose of reinforcing the joining of the forces when necessary.
Commander of the 914th Fleet, CDR. Tal Cohen:
"We are returning from a successful joint exercise. Our fleets, alongside forces from the Cyprus Naval Command and additional navies, accomplished impressive achievements. I am proud of the soldiers who managed to train in a highly professional manner in an environment that was different and foreign to them, in varying maritime conditions.
The collaborations demonstrated during international exercises are important for mutual learning, improving the readiness of the fleets and creating a common professional discourse.”
