Commemorating Those who Sacrificed their Lives in Service
After almost a decade of strenuous work, an emotional project which holds years of history was inaugurated.
Ever since BG (Res.) Ishay Dotan left the Chief Engineering Officer’s office 30 years ago, he set a goal for himself to commemorate the corps’ heritage and the heritage of those who sacrificed their lives in training and operations.
Last week his dream came true.
BG (Res.) Ishay Dotan and the Combat Engineering Corps Association created a path of remembrance as a way to honor them. After working on the remembrance project for almost a decade, the remembrance path was opened. During the planning of the project, they looked deep into the corps’ history, gathered stories and heard the memories and experiences of many soldiers.
The memorial path is located in the area of Hulda that holds an almost 100-year-old heritage since the corps establishment. The path is filled with 60 stones that are placed on both sides. Each stone is engraved with a tribute to the injured and fallen soldiers. Beyond the written text, on each stone there is a barcode that leads to a page where one can write about them and read what others wrote. Each stone holds a unique story and helps keep their memories alive.
Soldiers, families of the fallen and injured soldiers and civilians are able to take a short walk and connect with the past and the future.
"We dedicated our time with the intent to preserve the stories, the memory of the fallen and honor the injured.” –BG (Res.) Dotan.
