Chief of the General Staff Aviv Kohavi Concludes his Service in the IDF

During the tenure of IDF Chief of the General Staff LTG Aviv Kohavi, the IDF accomplished a multitude of milestones. 

LTG Kohavi was drafted to the 890th Platoon of the IDF Paratroopers Brigade in the summer of 1982. He served as Commander of the Paratroopers Brigade, Commanding Officer of the IDF Operations Directorate, Chief of the IDF Intelligence Directorate, Commander of the Northern Command and Deputy Chief of the General Staff, among other roles and positions.

Through his consistent commitment to the IDF during his 37 years of service, he became the Chief of the General Staff in January 2019. LTG Kohavi led the IDF through Operation Black Belt in November 2019, Operation Guardian of the Walls in May 2021, Operation Breaking Dawn in August 2022 and many other undisclosed operations.

In the position of Chief of the General Staff, LTG Kohavi welcomed representatives from various militaries, like France and Cyprus, to learn from and collaborate with the IDF. Several governments such as Hungary and the United States also sent officials to Israel to gain a better understanding of the IDF. 

LTG Kohavi was the first IDF Chief of the General Staff to officially visit Bahrain and Morocco. During LTG Kohavi’s visit to Morocco, he signed an accord sealing a strong alliance between our two armies.

In his time in office, the IDF introduced multiple technological advancements, including the naval C-Dome Aerial Defense System, the Sa'ar 6-class corvette and the Skylark 3 UAV. The C-Dome is a seaborne configuration of the Iron Dome that is used to intercept thousands of rockets and other threats. The Sa’ar 6 reinforces the IDF’s naval superiority, with an emphasis on defensive capabilities for important strategic assets and on offensive capabilities that have never been seen before in the eastern Mediterranean. Skylarks are some of the IDF’s most effective technologies, with the Skylark 3 being the newest version. The Skylark UAV provides precise intelligence which is used in almost every major mission. As the drones capture images from above, soldiers develop a clear picture of terrorist activity, and direct forces to suspects on the ground.

LTG Kohavi made an incredible impact on the IDF and the State of Israel and his time in office carries through to the future of the IDF. LTG Kohavi will be replaced by LTG Herzi Halevi in becoming the new Chief of the General Staff and we wish him the best of luck in his new position.
