41 New Naval Officers Join the Israeli Navy
The ceremony to mark the conclusion of the 146th Naval Officers Course was held at the Haifa Naval Base. The ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the State of Israel, Mr. Isaac Herzog, and Israel’s Defense Minister, Mr. Yoav Gallant, and included the participation of the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi, the Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy, VADM David Saar Salama, commanders, soldiers, families and other guests.
During the ceremony, each of the new officers received a naval officer’s pin and was awarded the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.
Among the 41 new naval officers were 8 female officers who completed the course.
During their training, the new officers acquired professional abilities and leadership skills alongside extensive knowledge of some of the world’s most advanced technological systems. Following the conclusion of the course, they will be assigned positions of command in the Israeli Navy’s missile boats and submarines. During their service, the naval officers will conduct complex and operational missions to ensure the State of Israel’s security and naval superiority.

Chief of the General Staff, LTG Herzi Halevi:
"Two years and four months of one of the IDF’s most unique training programs are successfully coming to an end today. You are completing your course as we enter the year that marks the 50th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War, a war that was also a milestone in the development of the Israeli Navy.
Dear graduates, today you join generations of naval commanders. Soon you will meet your new soldiers, some of Israel’s finest youth, and they will only ask you for one thing - that you teach them to be better soldiers and better people.
Today’s ceremony is held in the midst of complex times. At the beginning of the week, the Israeli Navy lost a soldier who just finished his service and began studying in a yeshiva. The late Hallel Yaniv and his brother, Yagel, were murdered in a grave terrorist attack carried out by a brutal terrorist. We will professionally and authoritatively apprehend those who carry out terrorist attacks. The IDF thwarts many terrorist attacks every week. Unfortunately, there have recently been attacks we weren’t able to thwart - but we must continue and do everything in our power and more.
The riots, the violence against IDF soldiers and the harm caused to residents and property in Huwara as an act of revenge following the terrorist attacks must all be condemned. These phenomena are fundamentally wrong and shift IDF soldiers from their counterterrorism activities. Now is the time to make clear statements, the time to draw boundaries for those who think an unrestrained internal struggle will improve our security. Alongside the great pain of our losses we will determinedly and with uncompromising responsibility operate to find the murderers in order to keep the State of Israel one unified country in the face of its many challenges."

Commander in Chief of the Israeli Navy, VADM David Saar Salama:
"Dear graduates, tomorrow you will join the State of Israel’s naval force, as we celebrate 75 years since the establishment of the Israeli Navy. The maritime arena is highly significant, and as such, it is only right that the best commanders be positioned in it. Commanders who know how to face the challenges the stormy sea presents them with, commanders who know excellence and professionalism when they see them, commanders who do not give up even when the road ahead is tough and steep. But also ones who know how to encourage their soldiers’ development. I trust you and am sure of your success. Go forth and succeed - always return to base safe and sound."
