On December 20th, a swearing in ceremony was held for IDF draftees in the “Special in Uniform” program. The soldiers with disabilities participate in the Yahalom Unit, which is a special combat unit of the Combat Engineering Corps. These soldiers volunteer to work in various fields within the Yahalom Unit.

Just like every soldier in the IDF, the group of special needs soldiers were sworn-in to the army, marking the beginning of their military service. This ceremony followed their Beret March and military preperation course.

This group of soldiers is not required to serve in the IDF and they all chose to volunteer in order to serve their country. They all play an integral part of the unit.

Volunteer Ron, one of the soldiers that participates in the “Special in Uniform” unit said: “I decided to enlist in the IDF because I wanted to contribute to the country. I know that the IDF will see me for me and what I am capable of doing.” Another soldier named Almog also stated: “I wanted to wear the IDF uniform like my older brother who served in the Home Front Command. I like serving my country and being looked up to by people just like I did.”

Among the participants in the ceremony were the Commanding Officer of the Yahalom Unit, COL A., and the “Special in Uniform” military band. The group’s commander, SSF A. was also in attendance and was recognized for integrating the soldiers in the unit.
