Two IDF Soldiers Wounded in Attack on the Egyptian Border

Earlier today, two IDF soldiers of the Caracal Battalion were injured by fire directed at them from Egypt. Though this aggression follows two years of relative stability in the region, not long ago violent incidents on the border were not unusual.

8:00 PM: IDF inquiry suggests the cross border attack on patrol was a violent drug smuggling attempt, foiled by Caracal Battalion forces. The perpetrators opened fire from 3 locations including from a car driving along the border. From the attack the Company Commander, Captain Or Ben-Yehuda and another soldier were wounded. IDF responded and killed at least three of the attackers. We are continuing to review the circumstances of the incident.

At around 2:00 PM this afternoon, an anti-tank missile was fired at a vehicle on the Israeli-Egyptian border. Two Israeli soldiers were wounded and evacuated to a hospital by a helicopter. The injuries are medium to mild. The IDF is currently sending forces to the area to determine if there was an infiltration into Israel. The residents of Ezoz were told to stay in their homes.

As the Sinai Peninsula suffers from political instability over the past few years, it has become home to terrorist organizations and activity. This terrorism poses a threat to the entire region, and has been directed at Israel several times in the past.

Terrorists in Sinai stormed an Egyptian military post near the town of Rafah. They killed more than 15 Egyptian soldiers and captured an armored personnel carrier (APC) and a truck filled with explosives. They drove the vehicles into Israel, where they were stopped by IDF forces before they could attack Israeli civilians.

An Israeli civilian was killed and two others wounded as terrorists who infiltrated Israel from Egypt detonated a roadside bomb and fired anti-tank rockets at two Israeli vehicles.

Terrorists from the Gaza Strip targeted Israeli civilians, who were 20km from reaching Eilat, a popular tourist destination for summer vacations. The terrorists carried out a string of terror attacks on passenger buses, civilian vehicles and soldiers near the Israel-Egypt border, killing eight people and injuring 40 others.
