The Israel National Defense College (INDC) -  prepares senior IDF staff as well as defense and government officials for senior command and management positions. The INDC is a leading institution that trains, shapes, and empowers senior national security leadership of the State of Israel. The training period lasts about 10 months and includes a graduate degree (M.A.) in Political Science from Haifa University. 

Brigadier Generals’ Course - a unique program launched in 2014 with trainees from all security arms of the State of Israel. Throughout the course, trainees and faculty conduct a systemic inquiry that are planned and implemented by the participants themselves and study structured contemporary strategic matters. The program is run multiple times throughout the year, and is administered by the Commander of the IDF Colleges along with a team of senior instructors. 

Command & Staff (PUM) “Afek” Course - intended for commanders and staff officers ranked Lieutenant Colonel and above from all military arms. The objective of the course is to train and prepare the officers to function in the high-ranking IDF environment. Over a period of 17 weeks, the trainees acquire a substantial knowledge base for staff work; expand their military expertise as well as learn indepthly about IDF strategy. Inter-services integration is reinforced during the course and acts as the basis for the officers’ when operating in the senior staff environment. In addition, the course further aims to strengthen the officers’ identities as senior officials as well as developing their command and leadership capabilities.

The School for NCOs - as a result of extensive work aimed to further strengthen the IDF’s NCOs, the School for NCOs was established and began operating in October 2017. The school's mission is to serve as a uniform training center for NCOs from all arms and branches of the IDF for military command and further cultivate their sense of pride and belonging to the IDF and the State of Israel. 

The School for NCOs holds two training courses:

  • Transition to Full Tenure Course – a four-week course designed for NCOs entering their tenure as career military personnel with the goal to prepare and train the NCOs for command positions as part of the IDF’s organizational backbone. 
  • NCOs Command and Staff (PUM) Course – a six-week course designed for NCOs entering a senior track aimed to train the NCO as a senior commander and part of the IDF’s leading staff. 

MATZPEN (“Compass”) Program – began to operate in the academic year of 2018-2019. A revolutionary course that trains company commanders, who’ve completed their first posting in the Ground Forces, with advanced military training while also enabling them to study for their B.A.

Tactical Command Colleges:

The Tactical Command College prepares officers for command positions in the military tactical system and provides officers with knowledge that is necessary in order to perform command-level responsibilities at the tactical level.

The training at the Tactical Command College lasts approximately two years and includes comprehensive studies in the fields of military profession, command, leadership, values, and social norms, as well as a Bachelor's degree from Haifa University. 

The Tactical Command College aims to develop an officer's thinking and learning skills as well as their research and criticism capabilities. The students are taught the content of the course in a variety of ways: lectures, field research assignments, lessons learned from previous battles, seminars, conferences, guided tours and field exercises. 

Students remain in contact with their units and maintain their operational capabilities while in the course.

At the end of training at the Tactical Command College, students join the advanced stages of the Company Commanders Course, completing their training as IDF company commanders.
