Attached is an official IDF press release regarding the revealed underground tunnels, and a video statement by the IDF Spokesperson, BG Effie Defrin.
The IDF is revealing Hezbollah’s underground terror tunnel network beneath the Beaufort Ridge, which was planned and funded by the Iranian terror regime.
The tunnel network was constructed within a civilian area at a location that provides operational control over the Galilee Panhandle region, only six kilometers from Metula, and served as a central Hezbollah terrorist organization hub in the area.
The network consists of several tunnels built to accommodate hundreds of terrorists simultaneously in multiple rooms prepared for extended stay and terrorist activity, including: living quarters, water and electrical infrastructure, as well as extensive anti-tank and aerial defense capabilities intended to target IDF troops and Israeli civilians.
What's in the Hezbollah Underground Tunnels
In one tunnel, approximately one kilometer in length, troops located:
- Six underground shafts
- A storage room used for weapons
- An anti-tank missile launcher
- Anti-tank missiles
- Grenades
- Ammunition
- Combat equipment
- Advanced medical equipment
- And several living quarters, including shower facilities, restrooms, an operating room, and kitchens.
UAVs, shoulder-fired missiles, and anti-tank missiles were launched from the site toward IDF troops operating in the area and against the State of Israel.
The project was built in proximity to Lebanese Armed Forces activity. As part of efforts to enforce the agreement between Israel and Lebanon, a request was submitted to the Lebanese Armed Forces to address the site; however, Hezbollah clearly prevented them from doing so.
The IDF launched operations in the Beaufort area in order to establish operational control over terrain that poses a threat to Israeli civilians and to enable the dismantling of the tunnel network.
Video statement by the IDF Spokesperson, BG Effie Defrin:
“Hello. About a week ago, we launched a precise operation in the Beaufort Ridge area. It is important for me to explain why we undertook this operation. The Beaufort is a strategic geographic asset from which Hezbollah launched approximately 400 missiles toward communities in northern Israel. It is located only six kilometers from the town of Metula.
I would now like to present details that we have not been able to publish until now. In recent days, Northern Command, led by the 36th Division and acting on IDF intelligence, has been operating to dismantle a major Hezbollah underground infrastructure site in the Beaufort Ridge area.
The underground network consists of multiple levels carved deep into the rocky terrain. The entire network was built over more than a decade with full funding and planning by the Iranian terror regime.
The site served as a central underground complex for several purposes. It functioned as a significant command-and-control center where hundreds of Hezbollah operatives were stationed. From there, Hezbollah directed terror activities and carried out terrorist plans, including during the current conflict.
In addition, the complex was used to store weapons and military equipment. Hundreds of Hezbollah terrorists who had been entrenched within the facility fled when the attack on the Beaufort Ridge began.
This is a large and extensive underground infrastructure network that required a ground operation to dismantle. We planned this operation for a long time and waited for the appropriate operational opportunity to carry it out.
The complex was struck from the air several times, and now, through a ground operation, we are working to dismantle it. Our troops surprised the enemy, approaching through deception from an unexpected direction, with the support of precise strikes by the Israeli Air Force. The current operation is another step in degrading Hezbollah’s capabilities across all dimensions.
Even at this moment, our troops continue to operate in the ridge area and are dismantling terrorist infrastructure. The partnership between the IDF and the residents of northern Israel is essential to achieving our objectives in this operation.
I want to say this as clearly as possible: our objective has remained the same from the outset. Defending the communities in northern Israel, creating a new security reality, and deepening the damage inflicted on Hezbollah. The operation at the Beaufort Ridge, like other operations we have conducted, proves this. We will not cease, stop, or relent until this objective is fully achieved.”
