The Central Command is one of the four regional commands in the IDF, and controls all operations and activities in central Israel. Its commander is Major General Nadav Padan and its objective is to defend the residents of the central coastal region as well as residents of the Judea and Samaria region.
There are seven regional brigades under its command: the Menashe Brigade, the Samaria Brigade, the Ephraim Brigade, the Benyamin Brigade, the Etzion Brigade, the Judea Brigade, the Lion of the Valley Battalion, and Lions of the Jordan Valley Battalion. In addition, three organic brigades operate under the Central Command: the Paratroopers Brigade, the Commando Brigade and the Kfir Brigade, as well as five reserve brigades and the co-ed battalions Lions of the Jordan Valley Battalion as well as Lion of the Valley Battalion.
Notorious Palestinian terrorist attacks have originated in Judea and Samaria and the Central Command’s main purpose is to thwart all forms of terrorist attacks and to root out terrorism wherever it may exist in the region.
The presence of IDF forces throughout the Central Command has prevented the spread of terrorist groups and terror attacks in the region. The presence of a security barrier also contributes to the prevention of terror attacks.
