The IDF Prevents Terrorist Attacks

Last week, in the middle of the night, Sayeret Golani (the Golani Brigade’s most elite battalion) received a special intelligence report: In Judea and Samaria, two suspected terrorists were plotting an attack on Israeli citizens. Within hours, Sayeret Golani located the suspects, arrested them, and thwarted their planned attack. Here's a closer look at what took place that night:

Sayeret Golani in particular and the IDF in general, embark on many counter-terror missions. IDF soldiers thwart a wide range of terrorist activities on a regular basis by arresting suicide bombers, preventing intrusions into Israeli settlements, and stopping terrorists from committing mass shootings. This time they arrested two terrorists who planned to carry out an attack.

Phase #1: Quiet Entrance

“We received information regarding two suspects who were about to attack civilians in Israel,” said the Deputy Commander of Sayeret Golani. “We got their names and address in the city of Nablus, in an area that is especially difficult to access.”

He explained the challenge of stealthily entering a particularly central and densely-populated location. “We had to find the suspects and arrest them––so we didn’t arrive with vehicles as always, but by helicopters that landed us in a hidden place close to the address. We moved silently for 3 kilometers, located the two suspects, and arrested them without anyone noticing.”  A quiet entrance is especially crucial to the success of the mission.  It reduces the chances of resistance from residents of the area and prevents the suspects from escaping.

Phase #2: Make Sure No Civilians Get Hurt During the Mission

“In addition to the helicopters, we used designated observation posts and snipers to secure the way and to ensure that no innocent people from the city of Nablus would get into an unnecessary confrontation with us. The combination of our capabilities led us to the arrest of the suspects without harming civilians and without causing disturbances in the city,” added the Major. “We always keep in mind that we must minimize friction with civilians.”

Phase #3: Arrest the terrorists

“We arrested them and prevented the attack. As soon as we completed our mission, we got out of there swiftly and efficiently. We are protecting our country, and saving Israeli civilians’ lives,” explained the major. “We were not afraid. We came prepared. Sayeret Golani is ready to fight against any form of terror.”

Phase #4: Return Safely and Prepare for the Next Mission

“We will locate anyone who is planning to attack Israel’s civilians. Whether it’s with helicopters, vehicles, or on foot, we will be able to reach and stop them” the Deputy Commander concluded. "We promise to do our best to protect the State of Israel and its civilians.”
