Early this morning, a unit from the IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps was alerted about a suspicious package that was found on a part of the Israeli-Egyptian border known as the Philadelphi Corridor. The investigation of this incident is still ongoing but we spoke to Major M. of the Combat Engineering Corps who supplied further information of the incident.

“In the early morning we received an alert about suspicious package located near the villages of Bnei Nitzraim and Kadesh Barnea located along the Israeli-Egyptian border.”

“Our team arrived only minutes after the alert and found the package containing an explosive device with a remote trigger system that can be activated via cell-phone.”

Upon arrival, Major M. and his soldiers established a security perimeter and disabled the explosive device with the help of remote controlled robots.

“We successfully neutralized the explosive device and our observations show that it was an improvised explosive device or an explosive belt. An explosion of this magnitude would have resulted in severe damage had it been detonated near a shopping center.”

According to Major M. the device contained several pounds of explosives with the clear intention of killing humans and causing severe damage. The incident is currently under investigation by the Israeli security services and as of yet no clear information on the suspects is available.

“We know that there are many attempts of smuggling and infiltration in this area, which the IDF fights tirelessly, day and night.”
