Two Senior Leaders of the IRGC Navy Eliminated

An IDF precision strike in Bandar Abbas eliminated IRGC Navy commander Alireza Tangsiri and intelligence chief Behnam Rezaei, key figures behind Iran’s maritime operations. Their removal deals a significant blow to the IRGC’s ability to threaten shipping and destabilize the Strait of Hormuz and the wider region.

In a significant overnight operation, the Israeli Air Force carried out a precise strike in the coastal city of Bandar Abbas, targeting senior leadership within Iran’s naval forces. Acting on high-quality intelligence provided jointly by the IDF Intelligence Directorate and the Israeli Navy, the strike resulted in the elimination of Alireza Tangsiri, the long-serving commander of the IRGC’s Navy.

For the past eight years, Tangsiri stood at the helm of the IRGC Navy, playing a central role in shaping Iran’s maritime strategy in the Persian Gulf. Over the course of his career, he held a series of influential positions, through which he oversaw operational planning and coordinated activities between various branches of Iran’s military forces in the region.

Under his leadership, the IRGC Navy intensified its involvement in hostile maritime actions, including attacks on oil tankers and commercial vessels.

Tangsiri was widely regarded as one of the key figures behind efforts to undermine freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global trade route through which a significant portion of the world’s energy supply passes.

His repeated threats and actions against international shipping placed him at the center of growing tensions in the maritime domain and contributed to instability affecting the global economy.

During Operation Roaring Lion, Tangsiri played a leading role in advancing attempts to close the Strait of Hormuz and escalate maritime attacks. His actions positioned him as a primary architect of efforts to disrupt international trade and exert pressure far beyond the immediate region.

Due to his direct involvement in orchestrating attacks on vessels in international waters, as well as his role in facilitating the transfer of advanced weaponry – including air defense systems and UAVs – to Russia and Syria, Tangsiri had been the subject of multiple international sanctions.

Alongside him, the strike also eliminated Behnam Rezaei, head of the IRGC Navy’s Intelligence Directorate. Rezaei was a central figure in maritime intelligence operations, responsible for gathering strategic information on regional actors and maintaining coordination with various intelligence organizations. His expertise and influence made him a key component of the IRGC Navy’s operational capabilities.

The removal of both Tangsiri and Rezaei marks a substantial blow to the IRGC’s naval command structure. Their elimination further degrades the organization’s ability to plan and execute operations in the maritime domain, adding to a growing list of senior Iranian regime figures who have been targeted in recent operations.

The IDF emphasized that it will continue to act decisively against threats posed by the Iranian regime and its leadership, wherever necessary, in order to protect regional stability and international security.
