For the First Time–Alpinist Unit Crosses from Syrian Hermon to Southern Lebanon to Thwart Terror Activity

29.03.26

In a first-of-its-kind operation, IDF troops from the Alpinist Unit, operating under the command of the 810th “Mountains” Brigade, successfully crossed on foot from the Syrian Hermon into southern Lebanon.

The mission marks a significant operational milestone, demonstrating the IDF’s ability to maneuver across one of the region’s most complex and hostile terrains to prevent the establishment of terrorist infrastructure along the northern border.

The targeted operation was carried out in response to ongoing attempts by terrorist organizations to entrench themselves in the border area. Moving through deep snow and extreme mountainous conditions, the specialized mountain commando unit conducted a precise sweep from the Syrian Hermon ridge toward the Mount Dov area.

Along the route, troops scanned key locations, gathered critical intelligence, and identified enemy infrastructure intended to support future attacks against Israel.

The Alpinist Unit, trained specifically for high-altitude and winter warfare, leveraged its unique capabilities to operate where conventional forces cannot. The successful execution of this cross-border maneuver underscores both the strategic importance of the Hermon region and the IDF’s determination to deny terrorist organizations any operational foothold in the area.

Simultaneously, troops from the 210th Division continue to maintain a robust defensive posture along the border. Their ongoing presence ensures the protection of Israeli civilians, particularly residents of northern communities, in the face of evolving threats.

Even in extreme terrain and across sensitive borders, the IDF will continue to act wherever necessary to prevent terrorist organizations from gaining ground near Israeli communities.
