Starting Saturday morning, reservist soldiers from Unit 8200 (Elite intelligence unit) assembled a task force in order to investigate, analyze and examine the wide array of items collected from the terrorists. The items, including equipment, documents, phones, and certificates, were examined and destroyed by the Yahalom Unit.

Among the documents collected were detailed attack orders against communities near the Gaza Strip, which illustrate Hamas’ plan to carry out a terrorist attack and commit atrocities against both civilians and soldiers.

In addition, a pamphlet and breakdown of the combat doctrine used by the Hamas forces that carried out the terror attack were found. The documents contained coordination actions, stages of attack and code words. One section details the treatment and abduction of civilians of communities near the Gaza Strip.

Soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade 202nd Battalion located the body of a Hamas terrorist within Israel with a detailed plan for a terrorist attack on Kibbutz Alumim, further evidence of Hamas' intent to carry out the horrific terrorist attack against Israeli civilians.

The Intelligence Directorate is leading the investigation of Hamas items gathered during the war. Explosive material is separated from documents and other sensitive materials, which are then transferred for processing by the Document Collection and Technological Gathering Division.

The materials are sorted, catalogued, translated and distributed to the Intelligence Directorate's research, information collection and field units.

The unit responsible for sorting the materials is composed of both active duty and reserve personnel, whose purpose is to extract critical information from items located by the security forces in combat zones. The unit then inputs the information into intelligence databases.

At the beginning of the war, special forces from the Yahalom Unit took part in efforts to identify combat equipment in communities near the Gaza Strip, which were filled with explosive devices, grenades, weapons, mines and more.

The area needed to be declared safe prior to the entry of the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) units. Active service and reserve soldiers of the Yahalom Unit operated in all nearby communities to locate and dispose of explosives.

All items collected in the field are gathered and examined by soldiers from the Yahalom Unit in the field.

The soldiers separated explosive devices and equipment found in the area and handed the materials over to representatives from the Intelligence Directorate in the field, including phones and communication devices. These items were thoroughly handled by bomb disposal experts and were transferred for further examination.

The operational unit of the Combat Engineering Corps operates day and night to protect Israeli civilians and will continue to play a part in the ongoing war effort.
