As part of the visit, the Chief of the General Staff observed the city of Gaza, where he was presented with the operational overview of the 162nd Division, and reviewed the operational plans for the continuation of the ground operation. The Chief of the General Staff spoke with the division’s commanders and troops and commended their actions.

From the remarks of the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir: “We are expanding the combat in the main arena - the Gaza Strip, and intensifying the operation against the Hamas terrorist organization. IDF troops are operating from key points around the city. Yesterday we began a significant mobilization of reservists in order to continue to intensify the blow against Hamas.

You, the commanders and the troops in the field, are facing some of the greatest challenges in the history of the State of Israel. You are among our finest people, operating with courage, determination, and dedication in the heart of enemy territory.”

“We have entered the second stage of Operation ‘Gideon’s Chariots’ in order to achieve the objectives of the war. The return of our hostages is a moral and national mission. We will continue operating against Hamas’ main strongholds until its defeat; we are instilling in them a sense of being constantly pursued everywhere.”

I have great appreciation for the vital mission you are carrying out here, and for the preparation of continuation of combat, until the objectives of the war are achieved.”
