The Commander of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor, visited today (Friday) the troops of the 828th Brigade at the IDF Training Base, who returned from the Gaza Strip after intense and prolonged combat.
During the visit, the Southern Command Commander noted the fighting spirit, professionalism, and steadfastness of the troops throughout the extended period of combat in the Gaza Strip. He added that the operational achievements of the troopss created the conditions that led to the ceasefire agreement.
From the words of the Commander of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor:
“This is not a regular military formation, this is a formation of victory. A victory of good over evil, of light over darkness, of a nation that sanctifies life against vile, murderous terrorists. We won. We pray, ‘He who causes the wind to blow and the rain to fall.’ And the wind has returned, a spirit of determination, devotion, and mutual responsibility. We rose from the ashes, we rose from a painful defeat. And the mutual responsibility across all shades of Israeli society, mandatory service and reserve soldiers, men and women, religious and secular, Jews of all backgrounds, all as one. And as the war progressed and the enemy understood that we are determined, unwavering, and consistent, he broke. In the end, he surrendered. In many ways, the war is a pure expression of ‘all for one.’ We have not stopped, we have not ceased, and we will not cease until we bring back all our brothers, the living, and those who are not among the living. You are the generation of the future. Some of you will return as squad leaders and sergeants, some will become platoon commanders, and perhaps among you stands the future Chief of the General Staff twenty years from now. When the war ends, we will go to the bereaved families, embrace them, lower our gaze, tell them that we love them and that we will never leave them. From there, we will go to the hospitals, to rehabilitation, to encourage our wounded brothers, to keep holding on to life and push forward.”
