The Chief of the General Staff on the Enlistment of Members of the Ultra-Orthodox Community
Following this morning’s (Monday) disturbances at the recruitment office during the enlistment of members of the ultra-Orthodox community, the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, condemned the events and stated:
“In the beginning of a week that marks the remembrance of Israel’s fallen and the importance of our independence as one united people, I view the actions of a small group of extremists with great severity.
The IDF appreciates the enlistment of the young ultra-Orthodox individuals who arrived to enlist in the IDF and serve in a meaningful capacity to strengthen the security of the State of Israel.
The military is prepared to integrate the ultra-Orthodox population in a manner that respects the unique character of this community.
In the midst of a multi-front war, the IDF needs everyone. We will continue to work towards this goal."
