ABSTRACT: A navy on the multi-domain battlefield is a navy that is built and operates differently. No more will operations occur almost in isolation from the other theaters of war, rather there must be a direct contribution to the aim of decisively defeating the enemy. This paper proposes a concept of the navy's place within the multi-domain strike, maneuver and defend framework. The authors claim that the navy could be a force multiplier if its relative advantages are actualized in the areas of counterfire, exposing the enemy and spatial defense. Nonetheless, a number of challenges stand in the way of realizing this concept, including the navy's need to continue in its traditional tasks such as coastal defense and guarding shipping lanes.
