The Campaigns Between the Wars in the IDF
ABSTRACT: The Campaign Between the Wars ("CBW") is the term for the IDF's Prevention and Influence approach for force employment short of war. Continuing the CBW and maintaining its relevance will require the creation of comprehensive strategy for its different theaters and objectives. This article surveys the CBW’s characteristics, the strategic and diplomatic context in which it was conceived, its relationship to war and to routine security and the necessary conditions to for its continuation. The insights in this article reflect the idea that the CBW is transforming in accordance with changes in the strategic environment. The preservation of Israeli freedom of operation and deterrence demands changes and adjustments.
