"There are No Endings, only Beginnings - Here is One": Theoreticians and Practitioners Learn about the Wars of Tomorrow
ABSTRACT: The intersection of the theory and practice of strategy is fertile ground for learning about revolutions in military affairs. This paper argues that the strategic theory developed at the beginning of the 21st century provides the framework for building a relevant military organization for innovation, transformation, and envisioning the future. The paper poses the question "Where are we?" in order to understand the contemporary revolution in the nature of war, and calls on militaries to develop historical awareness in order to orient themselves in time and space. The paper presents a case study of taking advantage of the intersection between theory and practice in the form of a project from the practicum of the IDF Planning Directorate and IDC Herziliya, the subject of which was the process of developing shared knowledge. The phenomenon of transformation within military, business, and public organizations was studied within this framework. It provides an example of the strategic level engaging in the study of the future and change for theorists and practitioners alike.
