UNRWA condemns the digging of a terrorist tunnel under its schools

On October 28, 2017, UNRWA announced that it discovered a terrorist tunnel dug under one of its Junior High Schools for boys in Beit Hanoun, Gaza. The terrorist tunnel was discovered a month ago by the UN agency and is a complete abuse of UN facilities.

“The presence of a tunnel underneath an UNRWA installation, which enjoys inviolability under international law, is unacceptable,” stated UNRWA. “It places children and Agency staff at risk.”

The agency reported that it has taken the necessary measures to render the school safe and has sealed the cavity underneath its premises. “The Agency again demands full respect for the neutrality and inviolability of United Nations premises at all times,” continued the report.

Hamas has a long history of using Gaza’s civilians as cover for its terror activities. In fact, intelligence efforts have found that a considerable portion of Hamas’s military infrastructure makes use of civilian infrastructure like homes, schools, mosques, hospitals, and other public buildings. This is yet another UN facility that has been corrupted under Hamas control. Hamas continues to prioritize killing Israelis over the prosperity and safety of Gazans.
