The “Kerem Shalom” Crossing Reopens to Enable Entrance of Humanitarian Aid
Following the conclusion of Operation “Breaking Dawn”, the Kerem Shalom Crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip was reopened on Monday, August 8, 2022 at date and time to enable the entrance of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip by COGAT (Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories).
Col. (res.) Reuven Ben-Shalom explains how the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings connect Israel and the Gaza Strip and why they had been closed during the operation. The crossings were closed after being targeted and the Erez crossing hit by a mortar. As a result of the closures, humanitarian aid such as food and medical supplies were not delivered. The morning after the ceasefire came into effect, the crossings were reopened and humanitarian aid began entering into the Gaza Strip.
Here are some figures regarding the Humanitarian Assistance through the Erez and Keren Shalom Crossings in the last year.
