The soldiers, an officer and three cadets, were stationed at the IDF Officers Training School. They were getting off a bus at the promenade, a popular tourist destination, as part of a field trip to cultural sites. Two of the injured are in critical condition, and were evacuated to Jerusalem hospitals for treatment.
The attacker, driving a large truck, accelerated as he approached the group. After he ran them over, he reversed his truck and struck the group a second time.
Hamas praised the attack on twitter, and celebrated the attacker’s actions as “Heroic.” The group also distributed sweets in Gaza in celebration.

Although terrorists in Europe and the United States have increasingly adopted the tactic of vehicle ramming attacks in recent months, vehicle ramming attacks in Israel are not a new phenomenon. In 2008, Palestinian attackers used cars and bulldozers to kill and injure multiple people in and around Jerusalem. Since October 2015, the start of a wave of terror in Israel, terrorists have committed 40 vehicle ramming attacks.
