Today (Thursday), on Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir, conducted a situational assessment and field tour in the Rafah area of the Gaza Strip. He was accompanied by the Commanding Officer of the Southern Command, MG Yaniv Asor, the Commanding Officer of the 36th Division, BG Moran Omer, the Commanding Officer of the Gaza Division, BG Barak Hiram, and additional commanders.

The Chief of the General Staff spoke with the soldiers on the ground and emphasized his appreciation for their efforts, especially during these times. Additionally, operational plans for continued defensive and offensive operations were presented to him.

From the remarks of the Chief of the General Staff, LTG Eyal Zamir: “We continue our operational pressure and to tighten our hold on Hamas as needed, and if we do not see progress in the return of the hostages, we will expand our activities into a more intense and significant operation until we reach a decisive outcome.
Hamas is responsible for starting this war, Hamas is still cruelly holding the hostages, and is responsible for the dire situation of the population in Gaza.
Hamas is mistaken about our capabilities, our intentions, and our determination, just like Nasrallah and his leadership circle did.
Yesterday, I attended the ceremony at Yad Vashem and met six torch-lighters, all over 80, Holocaust survivors who stand tall, strong, and determined.
We are fighting for them. They are looking at us and counting on us.
On Holocaust Remembrance Day, the profound meaning of your activity here becomes even clearer, for the existence of a sovereign Jewish state with a strong defense force.”
