The General Staff Forum, led by Chief of the General Staff Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz, is holding a strategic workshop today (Monday, August 13) to approve and finalize the IDF's next multi-year plan. The workshop is intended to design the power structure that the IDF will use for the next several years, in light of both the operational challenges the military faces and recent and ongoing changes in the Middle East.
The senior officers will listen to situation assessments and surveys covering a variety of topics, including strengthening, infrastructure, intelligence, training, and exercises.
The Chief of Staff considers 2012 to be a "transitional year." Several weeks ago, in a meeting between the Knesset's Foreign Affairs Committee and its Defense Committee, Lt. Gen. Gantz emphasized the important of the multi-year plan for the IDF, saying that the next such plan will be based on strengthening the military's striking power, depth, defensive efforts, aerial defense, and maintenance and development of cyber technology.
