The Chief of the General Staff, Lt. Gen. Benny Gantz spoke at a ceremony honoring the reserve formation last night, (Thursday, August 9) and elaborated on current threats facing the IDF. "Due to the current strategic reality, including both new and old threats and challenges- it is clear that reserve soldiers are a critical element of defending the State of Israel,” explained Lt. Gen. Gantz

He addressed this week’s attempted terror attack at the Israel-Egypt border and said, “Just earlier this week, we were reminded of how fragile the security situation in the area is. The terror attack from Sinai, along with other regional developments, requires the IDF to be prepared for all scenarios, on multiple fronts.”

Once again praising the operation of IDF soldiers during the attack, Lt. Gen. Gantz added that “recent attempts to harm Israeli civilians were immediately and efficiently thwarted by IDF soldiers, due to their alertness and a high level of intelligence.”

“Our preparation for these kinds of events, especially in times of emergency, leans on the dedication and competence of the reserve forces,” the Chief of Staff added reiterating the importance of the reserve formation. “In recent years we have acted in order to improve the military's exercise routine and training of the reserve forces, that said- we still have a long way ahead of us."
