Tens of thousands of worshipers at Kalandia, Head of Manpower: soldiers at crossings "employ sensitivity, determination and professionalism"

Approximately 68 thousand Palestinians crossed through Kalandia crossing in honor of the Ramadan holiday last Friday (July 27). Head of the Manpower Directorate Maj. Gen. Orna Barbivai, GOC Central Command Maj. Gen. Nitzan Alon, Head of the Civil Administration Brig. Gen. Motti Almoz and Chief Military Police Officer, Brig. Gen. Meir Ohana were present at the site.
Throughout the month of Ramadan, which began a few weeks ago, Muslims fast during the daytime and are permitted to eat and drink only with nightfall. Additionally, massive prayers are held at the Temple Mount and in Jerusalem. Every year, the crossings into Jerusalem open during the month of Ramadan to accommodate this tradition. IDF and the Civil Administration facilitate the crossing of thousands of Palestinians to pray and hold family visits in Israel.
Prior to the holiday, IDF military police security inspector stationed at the crossings received explanatory packets on the holiday, detailing common customs and traditions. In order to accommodate the mass worship, additional personnel were stationed at the Kalandia crossing. "We intend to facilitate the worship, which reaches a climax with the Friday prayer at Temple Mount," said Maj. Gen. Alon. "Just like in past years, we focus on the civilian population."
Maj. Gen. Barbivai added that "at the crossings, the soldiers combine the importance of allowing civilians in Judea and Samaria to lead normal lives and the necessity of ensuring security. I am thoroughly impressed with the sensitivity, determination and professionalism employed by the soldiers at the crossings."
