New IDF Depth Corps for joint operations in the strategic depth

Minister of Defense Ehud Barak has approved a series of high-ranking appointments made by IDF Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Benny Gantz.

The Chief of the General Staff ordered the formation of the Depth Corps, that will be subordinated directly to him, and appointed Major General Shai Avital head of the Corps.

The primary task of the Corps will be to extend joint IDF operations into the strategic depth.

In addition, Brigadier General Nitzan Alon will be promoted to the rank of Major General, and will be appointed GOC Central Command.

Brig. Gen. Noam Tibon will be promoted to the rank of Major General, and will be appointed head of the Northern Command's Corps, replacing Maj. Gen. Yishai Bar, ending his thirty-seven years of service.
