The IDF Spokesperson's Unit has launched its official IDF Flickr account as part of its New Media initiative. This is part of the unit's ongoing efforts to share additional information and improve interaction with the online community and a broader international audience.
The IDF Flickr account features photographic content taken by the IDF Spokesperson's Film Department. The albums include recent photos and descriptions as well as photographic content released by the Unit over the past ten years. One of the goals of the account is to provide an easily accessible and centralized archive of official IDF photographs online.
The first albums released on the account include: "Becoming a Soldier", "Women of the IDF", "Celebrating Diversity", "Flotilla Operation, May 2010", "IDF Aid Delegation to Haiti, January 2010", and "The Francop, November 2009". Additional albums will be published on a regular basis during the coming months.
The Flickr page will join other IDF ventures in social media, including the official IDF blog, the IDF YouTube channel, the IDF Twitter account, and the IDF Scribd page
.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit is continuing its efforts to widen its operations in the field of social media, in order to enable millions of people in Israel and throughout the world to better understand the IDF and to follow the IDF's operations in defense of the country and its residents.
